CLASS OF 2021

Did They Only Survive Or Did They Thrive?

Will there be another cohort like the Class of 2021?

Oh no, there won’t!

The COVID-19 pandemic has defined the 2020/2021 academic year. The pandemic was not just a surprise to businesses, industries, and individuals. It was a massive blow to education systems worldwide, and while some sectors could close, teaching had to continue. Almost overnight, students and teachers learned to engage through the digital world.

COVID-19 made its mark in many ways, but some seemed pale compared to the profound impact on students’ and teachers’ experience and performance this past year. Only a minute ago were parents rushing to get tablets. Now, exams, dissertations, and final projects are on the way; for some, results are coming in, and for others, the graduation season is on.

The Class of 2021 will be the second group to graduate during the pandemic, but the first to complete an academic year exclusively virtual remains unprecedented. So, whether virtually or in-person, families, friends, and administrators will all show up to celebrate the dedicated Class of 2021.

Without a doubt, there will be none like the Class of 2021. We salute them as the ones who did not just show up but ones who survived and even thrived.

Now we wait. We wait to see what change did COVID-19 create in their application, their behaviors, their speech, their preferences, even their decisions. We eagerly hold our breaths for exam results, be it local, national or international. More pointedly, we wait to hear if online schooling is an effective option for quality delivery of the teaching-learning process. But no doubt, whether they scored 100 percent or straight A’s, the lessons of discipline, flexibility, perseverance, time management, computer literacy will catapult them into hard-working individuals in their next chapter.

The road ahead may be uncertain, but the lessons of the pandemic are wisdom for the future. So, to the Class of 2021, we salute you!
